Deployment Types supported by Oracle Weblogic Application Server ?

In this post we will see what are the different type of applications and it’s forms supported by the famous Oracle Weblogic Application Server.We will see the list of applications as one by one.
What are the different type of Applications ?
Different types of application are available in market today; Weblogic application server supports the following types of applications.
1] Web Applications
2] Web Service Applications
3] EJB Applications
4] Enterprise Applications
Following table shows the different type of applications bundling forms and it’s respective deployment descriptors. Weblogic Deployment Descriptors like weblogic.xml,weblogic-webservices.xml, weblogic-ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-application.xml files are optional one.
What are the different type of Application Forms ?
The Applications and EJBs listed above can be bundled in two different forms. They are,
1] Archived form Bundled Application
2] Exploded form Bundled Application
Oracle Weblogic Server supports archived and exploded form of applications.Both archived and exploded form of applications have it’s own Advantages and Disadvantages.See the following diagram for reference.
Various Application Deployment Methods and Techniques?
Oracle Weblogic server supports the following deployment methods. These deployment methods can deploy both archived and exploded form of applications.
1] Console deployment
2] Command-line deployment
3] Auto Deployment
4] Fast-Swap and On-Demand Deployment
5] Production Re-Deployment
Each deployment method have it own set of tool to deploy, specific set of users, specific usage. Please see the following table, for further reference.
In the forthcoming posts we will discuss about each and every deployment technique in detail with step by step examples.
